Star Cricket is an Indian sports channel owned by the star sports network. Star sports network is the property of Star India, which is a subsidiary of “21st Century Fox” which is an American based multinational company. Star Sports previously known as ESPN Star Sports. It was founded in 1993. That time it had one channel with the name of star sports. Before 2013 Star Sports had launched four more channels. In 2013 Star Sports network went under the partnership by selling 50% of its shares to the Fox Sports and Star India.
The Star Sports Network has increased the number of channels from four to ten. The name of older channels has also changed by new ownership. The transmission’s broadcast areas of the Star Sports Network are Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Maldives. All channels of the Star Sports Network are in Hindi or English languages. The channels support the picture format of 576i(SDTV), 1080i(HDTV), 2160i(UHDTV).
Star Sports Network has a slogan, “Believe”. The network’s headquarters is in Mumbai-India. The CEO of the Star Sports Network is Nitin Kukreja. Star Cricket was one of the older channels of Star Sports Network. The channel, Star Cricket created in 2007. The purpose of the channel was to broadcast the cricket. Star Cricket showed all the matches scheduled in ICC cricket calendar as well as domestic cricket tournaments and cricket leagues’ matches. Star Cricket was the official broadcaster of the Cricket World Cup 2011’s Final. The channel broke all the previous record of high TRP’s, and viewership rate as 68 million viewers was only on cable and satellite. The popularity of that event was high enough so that the ad rate of 10 sec slot had raised to the US. $30,000.
Star cricket transmission is available in some regions which include Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines and Singapore. The transmission of Star Cricket HD channel only broadcasts in Singapore. Both the channels broadcast the same cricket match at the same time, but the difference is, Star Cricket broadcasts in Hindi and Star Cricket HD broadcast in English.
Star Cricket, now Star Sports 3
The channel’s name “Star Cricket” has now replaced with “star sports 3”. The English version of the channel named Star Cricket HD created in July 2011. The name of “Star Cricket HD” was also replaced with “Star Sports HD1”. After the new ownership, the channels’ transmissions are broadcasting with a new name in some regions according to the agreement which held between the partners of the Star Sports Network. The transmission of the channels with name Star Sports 3 is broadcasting in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Nepal.
The transmission of the English version of the channel is broadcasting with the name of Star Sports HD1 in the regions of Bhutan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. Both the channels broadcast the same cricket match at the same time, but the difference is, Star Sports 3 broadcasts its transmission in Hindi and Star Sports HD1 broadcasts its transmission in English.
The channel’s website also live streams all the cricket matches. Notably, all matches of the Indian Premier League live streamed on the official website of the channel. The website provides the services free of cost, but it offers some premium content as well.
Old Star Cricket and Star Cricket HD, now with new names of Star sports 3 and Star Sports HD1 are the most organized cricket channels of Star Sports Network.
